Following competitors on Instagram

Compare your Instagram account with up to five competitors: followers, growth, posts per week, engagement and their best posts.

Overview

Under Social → Competitors you compare your own Instagram account with up to five other accounts. You see how often your competitors post, how fast they grow and which of their posts do well. This is part of the social media planner.

What you need

  • Your own Instagram account, connected through Channels → Instagram, with a Facebook Page and all permissions.
  • Competitors with a public business or creator account. Private and personal accounts can't be followed.

Adding a competitor

  1. Go to Social → Competitors.
  2. Type the username (for example @name) or paste the link to the Instagram profile.
  3. Click Add competitor. Bugalou checks right away whether the account can be looked up.

Want to stop following a competitor? Click the bin icon next to the account.

What you see

  • Followers and growth over 7 and 30 days. Growth shows up a few days after adding, because Bugalou stores the numbers every night.
  • Posts per week over the last 30 days.
  • Average likes and comments per post. If an account hides its likes, it says 'hidden'.
  • Engagement: the average likes and comments per post, as a percentage of followers.
  • Your competitors' best posts of the last 30 days, with a link to Instagram.

Your own account is shown at the top, so you can compare right away.

Good to know

  • Following competitors only works on Instagram. Facebook and TikTok don't offer this data.
  • Other accounts' reach and views aren't public, so you won't see those.
  • Your competitors don't see that you follow them.
