How to connect Facebook Messenger

Set up the Messenger integration to manage Facebook conversations from your Bugalou inbox.

Overview

Connect your Facebook Page's Messenger to Bugalou so your team can handle all Messenger conversations from one centralized inbox. No more switching between Facebook and your CRM.

Requirements

The Messenger setup page lists three requirements:

  1. Facebook Page Required — you must be an admin of a Facebook Page. Personal profiles cannot be used for the Messenger Business API.
  2. Messenger Enabled — make sure Messenger is enabled for your Facebook Page in the Page Settings.
  3. OAuth Permission — during connection, you will be asked to grant permission to manage messages and metadata for your Page.

Step 1: Open the Channel Catalog

In your Bugalou dashboard, click "Channels" in the left sidebar to browse all available channels. Find the "Facebook Messenger" card and click the "Connect" button.

Step 2: Connect your Facebook Page

On the Facebook Messenger page, click the "Connect Facebook Page" button. A popup window will open where you:

  1. Log in to your Facebook account
  2. Grant Bugalou the required permissions to manage your page messages
  3. Select the Facebook Page(s) you want to connect
  4. Complete the authorization

After connecting

Connected pages appear under the "Connected Facebook Pages" section. Each connected page shows:

  • The page name with a blue avatar
  • A green "Active" badge
  • The date it was connected
  • A "Disconnect" button to remove individual pages

Multiple Pages

You can connect multiple Facebook Pages to the same Bugalou account. Each page appears separately in your Connected Facebook Pages list, and messages from all pages flow into your team inbox.

Features

With Messenger connected, you can:

  • Receive and reply to Messenger messages in your team inbox
  • Send images, files, and buttons
  • Automate responses with chatbot workflows
  • Assign conversations to team members
  • Use labels to categorize conversations

Disconnecting a Page

To disconnect a Facebook Page, click the "Disconnect" button next to the page you want to remove. This only disconnects the page from Bugalou — it does not affect your Facebook Page itself.

Team Routing

After connecting Messenger, you can assign a default team to this channel. All new incoming Messenger conversations will automatically be routed to the selected team. Go to the Messenger settings page and use the "Default Team" dropdown to select a team.

For more advanced routing, you can create routing rules that route conversations based on keywords, time of day, or other conditions. See Teams Management for a complete overview.
